Bernie A. Edwards

Hartsell High School 1947-1951

  • Football, Basketball and Baseball making All County and All Conference in all 3 sports.  After graduation played semi-pro Baseball locally in 1951

  • 1952-1954 served in the U.S. Army

  • 1954-1958 Catawba College graduating with degrees in English and Physical Education. 

  • 1958-1966 English teacher and Coach at Winecoff High School and continued at Northwest Cabarrus High School 1966-1978.

  • 1966 Northwest Cabarrus High School’s 1st Football Coach. 

  • 1967-1978 Northwest Cabarrus High School’s 1st Girl’s Basketball Coach. His record was 170 wins, 92 losses, 4 Conference Championships, 4 Tournament and 2 District Championships

  • 1969-1978 Northwest Cabarrus Baseball Coach recording 124 wins, 52 losses, 6 Conference Championships, 3 NCHSAA playoffs and Won the 1971 NCHSAA 3-A State Baseball Championship with a 23-0 record.

  • Served as an English Teacher, Head Coach in 3 Varsity Sports, Athletic Director, Assistant Principal and Principal at Northwest Cabarrus High School

  • Cabarrus County School’s Administrative Team for 5 years

  • Principal of Mt. Pleasant Elementary School for 11 years

  • Served as an Alderman for the City of Concord for 13 years and Mayor of Concord for 12 years
