Perry Fields

Winecoff 1944 – 1947

  • 1944 Pitcher for the American Legion Baseball Post 115 winning 2 games during the regular season. 

  • 1945 The team had a 17 – 5 record during the regular season and qualified for the NC American Legion State Playoffs. Perry had a 9 win – 2 loss record and led the team to the District and Area Championships. 

  • 1946 The team finished the season 28 – 6 and qualified again for the NC American Legion State Playoffs. Post 115 won the District, Sectional, Regional Championships and the NC State Championship. 

  • 1946 He finished the season with a 12 win - 4 loss record. In the Regional Tournament he pitched 18 innings, faced 67 batters, gave up 15 hits, 6 runs and had 11 strikeouts in a 7 to 6 victory. 

  • 1947 He signed a MLB contract with the Washington Senators and played for the Concord Weavers in the NC Level “D” League. He appeared in 10 games as a Pitcher and an Outfielder. 

  • 1948 Joined the US Army where he served over seas in the Korean War for 3 years. He eventually served a total of 22 years including action during the 1968 Vietnam War and received numerous medals for outstanding service. He retired in 1970 as a 1st Class Sergeant 

  • After retirement from the US Army he worked at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Salisbury, NC
