James "Leon" Ensley

J.W. Cannon High School 1946-1950

  • 1947-1949 Played Baseball and Basketball for Winecoff High School and selected All Conference in both sports.  In1950 Baseball Pitcher at J.W. Cannon High School making All Conference.

  • 1948-1949 Kannapolis Post 115 American Legion Baseball Team and 1949 American Legion All-State Team.

  • 1951-1952 Carolina League and Class “D” Georgia-Florida League

  • 1953-1954 Served in the US Army and played “service ball” at Fort Jackson 

  • 1955 MLB St Louis Cardinals. Played three seasons of minor league baseball.

  • 1959 Graduated from Pfeiffer College.  Earned his MA Degree from Appalachian State University in 1973 and MS Degree from NC A&T State University in 1974.

  • 1959-1961 Recreation Director for City of Concord

  • 1961-1964 Hartsell HS Head Basketball Coach and Assistant Football Coach

  • 1964-1970 Mt. Pleasant High School Head Baseball Coach winning several Conference Championships. JV & Varsity Assistant Football Coach.

  • 1970 Athletic Director at Mt. Pleasant and Teaching subjects such as Health and Physical Education, Sociology, Biology, Civics, General Science, U.S. History and Dr. Education. 1986 Mt. Pleasant H.S. dedicated the school’s yearbook “Tiger Roar” in his honor.
