Frank D. "Frankie" Williams

Concord High School 1949-1953

  • Football and Outstanding Catcher in Baseball

  • 1948 Member of the 1st Concord Golden Gloves Boxing Club.  Fought as a 95lb Fly-Weight for the Concord Boy’s Club.

  • Also fought for Kannapolis YMCA Boxing Club and the Charlotte Red Shield Club.

  • 1949 Won junior flyweight championship in Greensboro Golden Gloves

  • 1949 Defeated three opponents to win the Concord Golden Gloves Flyweight Championship. Also won North State Championship in Mooresville as a 100-pound bantamweight

  • 1949-1950 Played Football for the Concord Boy’s Club Midget Team and Won the NC State Midget Football Championships 2 years in a row.

  • 1950 Won Bantamweight Championship in the Concord Golden Gloves Tournament and was named Most Popular Boxer. 

  • 1951 Won Concord Golden Gloves Bantamweight Championship

  • 1952 Won Gastonia Open Bantamweight Championship

  • 1952 Charlotte Classics Golden Gloves Tournament Won the Bantamweight Championship. Selected Outstanding Fighter of the Tournament.

  • 10 Golden Gloves Championships in five years as a flyweight and bantamweight. Boxing record was 45 wins and 5 losses.
