Gerald S. Blackburn

J. W. Cannon High School 1945-1949

  • Football and Baseball 3-year Letterman

  • 1947-1949 Baseball – All Conference and All-State 

  • 1947 Pitcher with a 12-0 record for Kannapolis’ Post 115 American

  • Legion State Championship Team

  • 1947 Regionals he pitched a no-hit/no-run game against Little Rock,

Arkansas striking out 19 batters and was named to the All-Regional Team

  • 1948 at J.W Cannon he set the record of 23 strikeouts in a 9-inning game

against Lexington High School. He also had 2 games with 22 strikeouts and

one game with 21 strikeouts. 

  • 1949 set a new record with 26 strikeouts in a 9-inning game against Central High School

  • 1950-1955 Played Minor League Baseball for the Cincinnati Reds organization. He was called up to the majors and played with MLB Cincinnati Reds

  • 1960-1964 Assistant Coach for Kannapolis’ American Legion Post 115 Team winning the 1961 State Championship

  • Selected to the American Legion Hall of Fame in 1973
