In 1961 began his career in teaching and coaching at Cannon Junior High and A. L. Brown in Kannapolis Coaching Track, Football and Wrestling

Became involved in Wrestling Officiating in 1974 as Regional Supervisor for the Central Region of the NCHSAA

Began publishing Mat News in 1968 which was a Wrestling Publication throughout NC and shared with editors across the USA

Elected to the National Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2004

In 2014 received North Carolina’s the Order of the Long Leaf Pine, from Gov. Pat McCrory

Master’s Degree in 1970 from the University of Tennessee in Administration
