1944-1945 U.S Navy where he was assigned to the Pacific Theater. Played Baseball and won the PT Championship 1945

1946 Played in the Atlanta Braves Organization. 

1947-1957 Played for the Boston Red Sox. 1950 led the American League with a .354 batting average. 1949 and 1953 American League All-Star Team

1957 Baltimore Orioles, 1958-1961 Chicago White Sox and 1962 Houston Colt 45’s. 1959 played in the World Series for the Chicago White Sox.

16 year MLB career batting average of .300 with 1,691 hits, 19 home runs and 591 RBI’s 

1976 Batting Instructor and Coach for Atlanta Braves 

1969 NC Sports Hall of Fame and 2004 MLB Boston Red Sox Hall of Fame
