1940 started the Cabarrus County Sports and Recreation Department opening the Recreation Center on Academy Avenue that is still in use today

In Downtown Concord, he opened the Community Center Swimming Pool (called the “Y”) developing a lifeguard staff that taught CPR / First Aid along with swimming lessons for the youth of Cabarrus County for 40 years

He served as Principal of Coltrane-Webb Elementary School, Transportation Supervisor for Concord City Schools and the Director of Head Start Program in 1960s
