William "Bill" Goodman

Winecoff High School 1939-1943

  • Football, Basketball and Baseball 4 years – All-County and All-Conference

  • 1943 Semi-Pro Baseball for the Concord Weavers winning the Victory League Championship.

  • 1944-1945 U.S Navy where he was assigned to the Pacific Theater. Played Baseball and won the PT Championship 1945

  • 1946 Played in the Atlanta Braves Organization. 

  • 1947-1957 Played for the Boston Red Sox. 1950 led the American League with a .354 batting average. 1949 and 1953 American League All-Star Team

  • 1957 Baltimore Orioles, 1958-1961 Chicago White Sox and 1962 Houston Colt 45’s. 1959 played in the World Series for the Chicago White Sox.

  • 16 year MLB career batting average of .300 with 1,691 hits, 19 home runs and 591 RBI’s 

  • 1976 Batting Instructor and Coach for Atlanta Braves 

  • 1969 NC Sports Hall of Fame and 2004 MLB Boston Red Sox Hall of Fame
