  • 1971 Football Greensboro Daily News Top 100 Football Players in NC

  • 1971-1972 Basketball – All County, All Conference and All Tournament 

  • 1970-1972 Baseball – All County, All Conference and played American Legion Baseball for Post 51 1969-1972

  • Football Scholarship to the University of South Carolina 1972-1976. 3 Year Letterman and Starter.  The State Sports Writers selected him as one of the Best 100 USC Players (by jersey number) that had played at USC.

  • Concord High School Head Football Coach 1980-2009

  • Winningest Football Coach in Cabarrus County History with 254 Wins.

  • 43 Championships: 12 County, 9 Conference, 14 District, 6 Sectional and 2 Western Regional Championships.

  • Won the NC 3-A State Football Championships in 2004 and 2006.

  • 15 Coach of the Year Awards

  • 1990 East-West All Star Coach and 1997 NC-SC Shrine Bowl Coach.

  • 2014 Concord High School Football Field named “E.Z. Smith Field”.

  • 2016 Inducted into the NC Football Coaches Hall of Fame

  • 2019 Inducted into the Concord High School Athletic Hall of Fame.
